So I bought my first pair of toe shoes a few weeks ago. Vibram KMD Sports to be exact. I must say I was a bit sketched out at the thought
of shoe material between my toes. I’d
read good things about them, though, so I figured I’d give them a try.
They are WONDERFUL!!! Running in these shoes feels like having as close to no shoe as possible. There is just enough sole to protect one's feet from the rouge pebble or stick but they allow PLENTY of flex. The control it gives is unrivaled by other shoe’s I’ve used to run in. The shoe material between the toes isn’t noticeable long after the shoe is put on and is surprisingly comfortable with how it hugs the foot. At around $100 for a pair I'd say they are definitely worth the money!
I found when running in other tennis shoes, I tended to "heel strike" as I ran which was causing a lot of lower leg and ankle pain. After doing a bit of my own research I found that running barefoot was a good way for the body to naturally correct this issue. I wasn't keen on running up and down a highway completely barefoot so I went with a minimalist shoe. It worked like a charm. It only took about two jogging sessions and my form was where it should be. My calves have suffered slightly as they aren't used to doing quite as much work when I run. But it's getting better each time I run.
Overall I am very satisfied with these shoes. The company has a whole line up of shoes targeted for different markets from running to hiking to watersports and everything in between. I will be exploring more of their products in the near future and will give my reviews about them as well!
